बाह्यस्पर्शेष्वसक्तात्मा विन्दत्यात्मनि यत्सुखम्।

स ब्रह्मयोगयुक्तात्मा सुखमक्षयमश्नुते

Transliteration

bāhya-sparśheṣhvasaktātmā vindatyātmani yat sukham
sa brahma-yoga-yuktātmā sukham akṣhayam aśhnute

Synonyms

ye: those;

hi: certainly;

saṁsparśa: jāḥ — by contact with the material senses;

bhogāḥ: enjoyments;

duḥkha: distress;

yonayaḥ: sources of;

eva: certainly;

te: they are;

ādi: beginning;

anta: end;

vantaḥ: subject to;

kaunteya: O son of Kuntī;

na: never;

teṣu: in those;

ramate: takes delight;

budhaḥ: the intelligent person .;

English Meaning

An intelligent person does not take part in the sources of misery, which are due to contact with the material senses. O son of Kuntī, such pleasures have a beginning and an end, and so the wise man does not delight in them.
